UPGRADE works to one of Geelong\u2019s most loved walking paths at Eastern Beach are well on their way, with the first half scheduled to open last weekend.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong is rejuvenating the popular Eastern Beach promenade along the waterfront with new concrete for 400 metres of footpath between the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and Eastern Beach Reserve, along Ritchie Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The works include the creation of a new continuous sea wall beside the path to protect it from the elements and lengthen its lifespan.<\/p>\n
The old sea wall pre-cast structures have been removed and will be reused in other projects across the city.<\/p>\n
Works began in May, and the first stretch beginning at Eastern Beach Reserve was expected to be open by last weekend.<\/p>\n
The project is on track to be completed in August.<\/p>\n
The existing path was built during the redevelopment of the waterfront in the 1990s, and is close to 20 years old.<\/p>\n
Eastern Beach car park will remain open during the works.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith approximately two million people visiting the waterfront each year, the Eastern Beach promenade is one of Geelong\u2019s most loved walks,\u201d tourism and events portfolio chair Cr Ron Nelson said.<\/p>\n
