{"id":138202,"date":"2024-06-21T12:28:12","date_gmt":"2024-06-21T02:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=138202"},"modified":"2024-06-21T12:28:12","modified_gmt":"2024-06-21T02:28:12","slug":"fischer-merrijig-works-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/fischer-merrijig-works-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"Fischer Street, Merrijig Drive works begin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is undertaking road rehabilitation works along Fischer Street and Merrijig Drive, Torquay, to make it safer for all road users.<\/p>\n<p>The works began on Monday this week and are expected to be completed by Friday, June 28.<\/p>\n<p>The works are running in conjunction with the road safety works that started in May of this year.<\/p>\n<p>They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Road resurfacing along Merrijig Drive and Fischer Street<\/li>\n<li>Installing raised pedestrian crossings along Fischer Street, at Puebla Street, Parkside Crescent, Inshore Drive and Nautical Rise, and<\/li>\n<li>Roundabout extensions, including extra line marking on Fischer Street, at the intersections of Zeally Bay Road, Beach Road, Darian Road, Inshore Drive and Centreside Drive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These works will take place during the day with some nightworks planned to minimise the disruption to traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Fulton Hogan, who are completing the works on behalf of the shire, have notified affected residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These road works will create a safer and smoother road surface and provide much-needed safe crossing points across Fischer Street, connecting to Taylor Park and the beach,&#8221; shire mayor Liz Pattison said.\\<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have seen the cracking and uneven road along Merrjig Drive and welcome these works to fix the road before it gets worse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While road works do create interruptions, these works will bring significant benefits by making it safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrian.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\\Traffic management will be in place as required, and motorists are asked to observe signage and traffic controllers.<\/p>\n<p>For the full list of road works throughout Torquay, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/roadupgrades\">surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/roadupgrades<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is undertaking road rehabilitation works along Fischer Street and Merrijig Drive, Torquay, to make it safer for all road users.
