{"id":138403,"date":"2024-06-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=138403"},"modified":"2024-06-27T14:50:10","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T04:50:10","slug":"deans-marsh-community-celebrates-winter-solstice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/deans-marsh-community-celebrates-winter-solstice\/","title":{"rendered":"Deans Marsh community celebrates winter solstice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Deans Marsh Community Cottage has celebrated the longest night of the year with four days of events.<\/p>\n<p>From June 20 until June 23, people came together for workshops and sessions which ran either side of the main winter solstice event Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The point of winter solstice is to reflect on the time of year and nature and where the sun&#8217;s at and obviously the shortest day of the year and taking time to be still in that moment,&#8221; Deans Marsh Community Cottage co-ordinator Caroline Shelborune said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/cxzzTcjE_22451.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The celebrations featured a range of entertainment and performances though the evening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thursday was a community altar creation, where around 10 people helped create a space in the hall that was then used throughout the weekend of events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The group of people got together to create this beautiful space in the hall that was full of candles, flowers, driftwood, shells, stones, pebbles and some soft furnishing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This space was then used on the Friday night for a drumming workshop and again on Saturday for the sound healing session.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/picture_20240626_092_22528.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 300 people attended the Winter Solstice event on June 22.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People could come and go through it in during the night while other celebrations were happening outside in the cottage car park,&#8221; Ms Shelbourne said.<\/p>\n<p>With more than 300 people attending, the candles were lit and fires going for the main event on Saturday night with performances, the lighting of the solstice spiral and more.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Shelbourne said it was a great night with performances from Tiffany Eckhardt and Dave Steel and the fire twirling being a highlight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/T1FrcLmA_22484.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adam Callow made a seed pod fire sculpture that opened out into a flower.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Adam Callow made this incredible fire sculpture that was a seed pod and opened into a flower.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a really beautiful night, the weather was prefect, it was a still, calm, evening not a cloud in the sky and it was a really happy event.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Feed me Surf Coast and Ye Ye were on scene to provide the food with help from the Deans Marsh Primary School who provided apple crumble and chocolate brownies.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/T1fhARlE_22464.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">As part of the celebrations, the solstice spiral was lit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mulled wine was also on offer as part of the Cottage&#8217;s fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>A meditation workshop wrapped up the weekend of events on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Deans Marsh Community Cottage has celebrated the longest night of the year with four days of events.
