Country superstar Lee Kernaghan has been endlessly inspired by the Australian people for more than two decades, and on his new tour he pays homage to some of the bravest.
\nKernaghan\u2019s The Songs and the Stories in Concert is coming to GPAC on Friday May 20 and features his biggest hits and special performances from his latest release, Spirit of the Anzacs.
\nFocusing on the stories and history of Australia\u2019s service men and women, Spirit of the Anzacs features Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Sheppard, Shannon Noll, John Stevens and Megan Washington. Kernaghan wrote the album after visiting Canberra\u2019s Australian War Memorial, where he was inspired by the letters soldiers wrote to their families from the frontlines.
\n\u201cI read a lot while I was there then went home and did a lot of research, and the more in-depth I got, the more fascinated I was by their experiences and knew it was something I wanted to share. \u201cI\u2019ve always had enormous respect for service men and women, what it means to be Australian and how lucky I am to have been born here, so it\u2019s been such an honour to meet these people, shake their hands and bring their stories to a wider audience.
\n\u201cEvery single song is inspired by a true story and I think it\u2019s so important to keep passing them on so they don\u2019t get lost.\u201d
\nKernaghan has sold more than two million albums, won 33 Golden Guitars and three Aria Awards, and has had 33 number one hits on the Australian Country Charts. The Songs and the Stories in Concert will be a show reel of his illustrious career, of which he says he owes to the people who inspire him year after year.
\n\u201cThe more I travel and the more people I meet the more I learn \u2013 and it\u2019s these meetings and the stories people tell me that have inspired me for 24 years.
\n\u201cIf you open up and listen to people there\u2019s always something to learn, a new interesting story that captures the Australian spirit, I feel honoured to have been doing this for so long.\u201d
