THE annual Lifeline Geelong Golf Classic is set to return in September, promising a day of fun and competition in support of Lifeline’s crucial crisis services.<\/p>\n

Local businesses and individuals are set to come together for the classic, a four-person Ambrose-style tournament featuring unique holes and a chance to win $10,000 in the event’s hole-in-one competition.<\/p>\n

Supported by major sponsor Elders Insurance, the event will take place on September 6 at The Sands in Torquay, uniting the community in a shared commitment to mental health support.<\/p>\n

Elders Insurance’s Sam Stoneley encouraged businesses across the region to get a team together and get involved in the event.<\/p>\n

“We admire Lifeline’s dedication to our community and are proud to support their life-saving work,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Together business and community can make a real difference.”<\/p>\n

Lifeline Geelong is the region’s leading suicide prevention service and supports individuals facing emotional distress, mental health challenges and crisis situations.<\/p>\n

Nationally, Lifeline receives a call for help every 30 seconds, and in the Geelong region alone, it receives more than 6,000 crisis call annually.<\/p>\n

Michael Parker, Lifeline Geelong’s corporate and community partnerships manager, said community support playing a vital role in helping the charity answer every call.<\/p>\n

“Many people don’t realise that local Lifeline centres rely on community to keep services running,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It costs $3,500 to train and support each crisis supporter. Each call to Lifeline costs around $39.”<\/p>\n
