THE Rotary Club of Torquay held their changeover dinner last week, celebrating and acknowledging its achievements over the past 12 months and inducting the service club’s new board.<\/p>\n

On July 8, about 70 people attended the evening, where Bruce Turner took over the reins as president from Philip Beasley.<\/p>\n

Mr Turner has been part of the Torquay Rotary for the past five years. During that time he has looked after the annual motor show and been the community\u00a0service director.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a busy time, but it’s been very rewarding being part of the club,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Probably the best aspect of it is the fellowship, being part of that group of like-minded people, but also very supportive people.”<\/p>\n

As he leads the club for the 2024-2025 year, Mr Turner hopes to increase their involvement in the local community and is also keen to recruit new members as the club continues to grow.<\/p>\n

“I’m looking forward to having the chance to get out there and let people know what we do and the benefits of being part of the group so that we can also spread those benefits across the community.”<\/p>\n

At the changeover event, Rotary members were recognised with a number of awards, presented to Gerard McNamara, Peter Bollen, Vernon D’Souza, David Mitchell, Margaret McPherson, Ben Featherston, Trevor Hall, Neil Henderson, Allan Hillgrove, Linda Neale, Stephanie Reed, James Waters and Bruce Turner.<\/p>\n

Joining Mr Turner on the board is Michael Reed (vice president), Neil Henderson (secretary) and Malcolm Slater (treasurer).<\/p>\n
