	{"id":140,"date":"2016-01-28T01:58:07","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T01:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/surfcoasttimes.com.au\/?p=140"},"modified":"2017-12-08T14:02:42","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T03:02:42","slug":"winchelsea-wants-its-kart-track-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/winchelsea-wants-its-kart-track-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Winchelsea wants its kart track back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Winchelsea Fun Kart Club could resume operation in coming months with the Surf Coast Shire considering a petition to reopen or relocate their track at a meeting today (Thursday).<\/p>\n<p>The council will consider a report based on the petition, in which more than 800 signatories request the continuation of operations at the track located at Winchelsea Common, or at another suitable site.<\/p>\n<p>Go-karting events ceased at the Common in early 2013 after a council investigation found the land on which it is located was contaminated with lead, antimony and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.<\/p>\n<p>The council report states that the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) recommended the Common be closed while additional investigations into the contamination and public health risks were undertaken.<\/p>\n<p>However, petitioner Chris Riley said no action has been taken since to investigate further, clear the land of contaminants or relocate the track since.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only money that has been used for the track has been spent trying to keep it closed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\ue0b3\ue02c\ue049\ue003 \ue057\ue04b\ue048\ue05c\ue003 \ue047\ue052\ue051\ue0b6\ue057\ue003 \ue05a\ue044\ue051\ue057\ue003 \ue04c\ue057\ue003 \ue057\ue04b\ue048\ue055\ue048\ue003 \ue057\ue04b\ue048\ue05c\ue003 \ue056\ue04b\ue052\ue058\ue04f\ue047\ue003 \ue0bf\ue051\ue047\ue003 somewhere else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the town wants it open so the kids can enjoy it, but council just wants to take it away, why \ue046\ue044\ue051\ue0b6\ue057\ue003\ue057\ue04b\ue048\ue05c\ue003\ue046\ue04f\ue048\ue044\ue055\ue003\ue057\ue04b\ue048\ue003\ue04f\ue044\ue051\ue047\ue003\ue052\ue055\ue003\ue0bf\ue051\ue047\ue003\ue044\ue051\ue052\ue057\ue04b\ue048\ue055\ue003\ue04f\ue052\ue046\ue044\ue057\ue04c\ue052\ue051\ue022\ue0b4 The EPA issued a clean-up notice for the site to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) in May 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The council report says it will continue to work with the appropriate authorities on meeting EPA requirements this year.<\/p>\n<p>The full report can be viewed online at surfcoast.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Winchelsea Fun Kart Club could resume operation in coming months with the Surf Coast Shire considering a petition to reopen or relocate their track at a meeting today (Thursday).
