THE Bellarine Netball League Finals Series race is heating up following last weekend’s Round 15 results with now only six clubs remaining in contention.<\/p>\n
Anglesea’s one-goal win over Newcomb last weekend has kept the Roos’ season alive another week and by the slimmest of margins.<\/p>\n
Anglesea has another chance to close the gap on fifth place with an encounter scheduled against Portarlington, who have struggled in 2024 with only three wins to this point.<\/p>\n
Anglesea’s run home to the finals involves an away meeting with Geelong Amateur in Round 17 then a home fixture against the reigning premiers Ocean Grove in Round 18.<\/p>\n
Newcomb, in fourth on the standings, travel to Ocean Grove tomorrow (Saturday, July 27) afternoon, a week after the Grubbers fell to unbeaten Geelong Amateur by five goals.<\/p>\n
Fifth-seeded Torquay will hope to keep Anglesea from closing the gap on its finals spot, but will need to stave off Queenscliff, who themselves are hoping to sure up its double chance spot in\u00a0the top three.<\/p>\n
The two-horse race for the A Grade minor premiership in 2024 between Geelong Amateur and Ocean Grove was all but locked up last week when Mel Savage’s Ammos outfit completed the season sweep over the Grubbers 55-50 led by Ruby Watson’s 44 goals.<\/p>\n
With an eight-point separation in the standings, Ammos can officially secure the top seed and a week off in finals with a win tomorrow over the bottom of the ladder Drysdale Hawks.<\/p>\n
Watson is on pace to secure another Hot Shots Award, with the Ammos’ shooter collecting 680 goals from 788 in all 15 games this year.<\/p>\n
The next best contributor in the category is Newcomb’s Carly Sanders with 484 goals. Queenscliff’s tandem of Tess Orvis (479) and league best and fairest Kaitlin Gladman (377) are next, while Portarlington’s Candice Bull rounds out the top five with 360 goals.<\/p>\n
