TORQUAY RSL is shifting an eye to the future and hoping to attract some younger members to help foster their welfare and social connection mission.<\/p>\n

The club has outlined recruitment as being “paramount” in building up and continuing its strong community focus.<\/p>\n

Torquay RSL’s main objective is to provide welfare services and advocate for returned servicepersons and first responders.<\/p>\n

They also hosts events, activities and a number of commemorative services including the annual ANZAC Day service which is one of the largest Australia-wide.<\/p>\n

Torquay RSL vice-president Darcy Dunstan said anyone was welcome to join the group.<\/p>\n

“We are building a supportive community of younger veterans and first responders to our existing RSL membership in the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n

“It’s crucial to have a supportive community to lean on during tough times if they arise. Being part of such a community can make the transition smoother and provide valuable connections.<\/p>\n

“Currently we’ve only got about three members under the age of 65, so it’s a real focus to look to the future to keep moving forward.”<\/p>\n

Torquay RSL relies solely on volunteers to carry out its services.<\/p>\n

“We depend on willing volunteers, not only to provide a wide range of welfare services, but also to organise a number of major commemorative services, including Remembrance and ANZAC Days,” Mr Dunstan said.<\/p>\n

“Our members have different lived experiences, so we endeavour to be a place where they can all come and be safe and welcome.”<\/p>\n

The Torquay RSL has big plans for 2024 and beyond, including a oming art exhibition, outdoor family activities and a series of social gatherings.<\/p>\n
