{"id":141375,"date":"2024-08-01T04:00:14","date_gmt":"2024-07-31T18:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=141375"},"modified":"2024-07-31T14:16:59","modified_gmt":"2024-07-31T04:16:59","slug":"high-interest-in-winchelsea-community-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/high-interest-in-winchelsea-community-village\/","title":{"rendered":"High interest in Winchelsea Community Village"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A COMMUNITY-LED housing project in Winchelsea is gaining plenty of interest, with half of the properties on offer already sold and off the market.<\/p>\n<p>Five of the 10 properties in the Winchelsea Community Village have been snapped up by locals downsizing and those with ties to the area.<\/p>\n<p>The state-of-the-art facility intends to provide senior members of the community with a sufficient quality, affordable village lifestyle accommodation option.<\/p>\n<p>It will also prevent long-term residents from having to move away from their families, friends and social lives.<\/p>\n<p>The project is being led by local charitable volunteer community group Winanglo Inc and supported by the Surf Coast Shire and Community Bank Surf Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The units are located on the corner of Harding Street and Hopkins Street on land donated by Council.<\/p>\n<p>Winanglo Inc committee member Ken McDonald said it was great to see so much interest in the project.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The units and grounds will be fully landscaped and have a network of paths for easy access to the river, shops and other neighbouring facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The units are of the highest quality, will average a 9-star energy rating and have all ability access allowing for wheelchairs, mobility devices and able-bodied people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The purchasers will be entitled to lifetime usage, giving the occupant the option to live in the home as long as they choose.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Community Bank Surf Coast senior branch manager Jeremy Morris said the bank was proud to have donated $1.8 million toward construction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An affordable lifestyle accommodation option providing social connectivity is so important for people wishing to downsize is so important and there presently aren&#8217;t any options in Winchelsea.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Winchelsea Bank Community Village will also free up housing stock which is very important as Winchelsea has been a very popular option for young families seeking a more rural township feel while being only 25 minutes away from Geelong and the coast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All 10 homes are scheduled for completion in April 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Conditions apply for eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/winanglo.org.au\">winanglo.org.au<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A COMMUNITY-LED housing project in Winchelsea is gaining plenty of interest, with half of the properties on offer already sold and off the market.
