MORE than 550 trees and shrubs have been planted to help restore the riparian zone of Kennett River.<\/p>\n
Kennett Community Action Group hosted a planting day last week with the assistance of the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) to revegetate the area.<\/p>\n
The riparian zone of Kennett River is beloved by the local community but has been under stress due to increased tourism and pressures on local wildlife.<\/p>\n
The works will help improve conditions for wildlife, increase biodiversity and minimise the impact<\/p>\n
of visitors.<\/p>\n
Kennett Community Action Group purchased and propagated the seeds for the planting, with assistance from GORCAPA to select the species.<\/p>\n
GORCAPA conservation ranger Inala Swart said the area was now in a fantastic state.<\/p>\n
“Over the past few months, our conservation team has been hard at work managing weeds and spreading mulch.<\/p>\n
“We recently undertook a cultural heritage induction and pre-dug holes for the plants to ensure everything was ready for a big day of planting.\u201d<\/p>\n
Taking a \u201ccitizen science\u201d approach, the Kennett Community Action Group will assist GORCAPA in monitoring plant health and weed management.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
