SURF COAST and Bellarine lifesavers dominated the podium at the Life Saving Victoria Awards of Excellence, taking out eight of the top honours.<\/p>\n

The event, held at the Sofitel in Melbourne, celebrated the best in Victorian lifesaving by recognising the outstanding achievements and contributions by lifesaving volunteers, members and those working across the aquatic industry.<\/p>\n

Headlining the major achievements were Jan Juc members Tim Watson and Finn Dripps who took out Coach of the Year and Beach Lifeguard of the Year respectively.<\/p>\n

Watson amassing thousands of hours on the beach during the 2023\/24 season.<\/p>\n

His commitments extended beyond coaching to voluntary roles on the club board and as vice patrol captain, demonstrating his exceptional dedication to lifesaving and athlete development.<\/p>\n

Jan Juc SLSC president Brett Thompson said Watson’s efforts had been nothing short of exceptional.<\/p>\n

“Tim has made a remarkable impact at Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club during the 2023\/24 season.<\/p>\n

“His coaching has led to impressive results, including top finishes at national and state championships.<\/p>\n

“Tim has excelled in developing talent and mentoring junior coaches while fostering inclusivity and community engagement.<\/p>\n

“We are very proud of him.”<\/p>\n

Thompson also lauded Dripps for his service and commitment to surf safety.<\/p>\n

“Finn’s impact this season extended far beyond routine lifeguard duties.<\/p>\n

“He has embraced his roles with unparalleled enthusiasm, mentoring new lifeguards and leading with vision as they organised and facilitated training programs and high-profile events.<\/p>\n

“By fostering a culture of excellence and inspiring those around him, he has set a new standard in lifesaving, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and safety.”<\/p>\n

Other recipients on the Surf Coast were Lorne SLSC (Nippers Club Program of the Year), Anglesea SLSC (Outstanding Achievement and President’s Certificate), Howard Fuller (Lorne SLSC, commendation) Amenah McDonald (Ocean Grove, commendation) and Mark Scotland (Fairhaven SLSC, John Wishart Memorial Medal).<\/p>\n

Phillip Hughes from Point Lonsdale SLSC was cited for his contributions to the sport and inducted as a life member of Life Saving Victoria.<\/p>\n
