THE Sands Torquay is gearing up to again host its annual charity golf day to raise funds for breast cancer research.<\/p>\n

Eager to increase its impact in the fight against breast cancer, this year’s Tee Off for Breast Cancer Trials will take place on October 31, and the club is hoping to beat last year’s fundraising effort of almost $15,000.<\/p>\n

The Tee Off event is a national fundraising initiative of Breast Cancer Trials (BCT), a group of world-leading breast cancer doctors and researchers based in Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Money raised on the day will support its mission to identify new and effective breast cancer treatments and prevention.<\/p>\n

The event will mark the seventh year that The Sands Torquay has supported the initiative, with last year’s event bringing together more than 100 pink-clad attendees for 18 holes, a buffet lunch and raffle prizes.<\/p>\n

The Sands Torquay sales and marketing manager Annie Glasson said the club, its members and friends were proud to be involved.<\/p>\n

“Breast cancer has touched the lives of many of our members and their families,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We’re proud to support breast cancer clinical trials research and to do this through a game of golf with friends.<\/p>\n

“We would be pleased for the community of Torquay golfers to join us for a fun and friendly day of activities, golf and a few drinks to support this worthy cause.”<\/p>\n

Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women, with, on average, 57 people diagnosed \u2013 equating to a person every 25 minutes \u2013 and eight people losing their life to breast cancer every day.<\/p>\n

BCT chief operating officer of fundraising and philanthropy Julie Callaghan said the commitment and support of The Sands Torquay and its members was greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n

“We rely on the generosity of community groups to continue our research to find new and better treatments for all people affected by breast cancer,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We are thrilled to have the support of The Sands Torquay and I encourage the community to get behind their fundraising efforts because trials save lives.”<\/p>\n
