{"id":143695,"date":"2024-08-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=143695"},"modified":"2024-08-23T11:16:56","modified_gmt":"2024-08-23T01:16:56","slug":"find-your-new-ward-in-the-surf-coast-shire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/find-your-new-ward-in-the-surf-coast-shire\/","title":{"rendered":"Find your new ward in the Surf Coast Shire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VOTERS in the Surf Coast Shire will be part of a new ward structure at this year&#8217;s local council election, with the city now comprising three wards with three councillors each.<\/p>\n<p>The three wards in the municipality are down from four at the previous council election.<\/p>\n<p>They are (with the number of electors as of March 2023):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Torquay Ward (which is slightly smaller than the former ward of the same name) &#8211; 16sqkm, with 11,503 electors, a deviation of 2.32 per cent less than the average<\/li>\n<li>Winchelsea Ward (which now includes the north-western corner of the former Lorne Ward) &#8211; 980sqkm, with 10,144 electors, 13.86 per cent less than the average, and<\/li>\n<li>Otway Range Ward (which includes part of the former Torquay Ward, all of the former Anglesea Ward and the remaining part of the former Lorne Ward) &#8211; 560sqkm, with 13,683 electors, 16.19 per cent more than the average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Colac Otway Shire remains unsubdivided, with voters to elect seven councillors to represent the entire municipality.<\/p>\n<p>Voting in this election is by post only.<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian Electoral Commission will post ballot packs to all enrolled voters from October 7.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_143788\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-143788\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-143788 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/SurfCoastShirene_57442-1-1024x1024.jpg?_t=1724284253\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/SurfCoastShirene_57442-1-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/SurfCoastShirene_57442-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/SurfCoastShirene_57442-1-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/SurfCoastShirene_57442-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-143788\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This map shows the new ward structure for the Surf Coast Shire. Image: VICTORIAN ELECTORAL COMMISSION<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your ballot pack will contain:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A ballot paper<\/li>\n<li>Candidate statements<\/li>\n<li>A ballot paper envelope (for your vote to go in)<\/li>\n<li>A reply-paid envelope (for your ballot paper envelope to go in), and<\/li>\n<li>A leaflet with instructions in other languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Follow the instructions in your ballot pack to complete your vote.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you post it or drop it off at the election office before 6pm on October 25.<\/p>\n<p>Local mail collection times differ.
