{"id":143701,"date":"2024-08-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=143701"},"modified":"2024-08-21T23:24:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-21T13:24:22","slug":"90th-birthday-for-regional-health-provider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/90th-birthday-for-regional-health-provider\/","title":{"rendered":"90th birthday for regional health provider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN organisation synonymous with Greater Geelong and beyond has celebrated 90 years of providing community health.<\/p>\n<p>GMHBA\u2019s celebrated its 90th birthday on August 13 across 13 of its sites, preceded by a gala dinner held at GMHBA Stadium on June 27.<\/p>\n<p>GMHBA CEO David Greig said the celebrations highlighted the company\u2019s exponential growth over the past nine decades, turning into one of the nation\u2019s most recognisable names in health insurance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/GMHBAYasminStewarta_61110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GMHBA&#8217;s Yasmin Stewart and Meg Rayner at the GMHBA\/bay 93.9 outdoor broadcast celebrating the 90th birthday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom our humble beginnings in 1934 at the Geelong Cement Works, GMHBA has grown into Australia\u2019s leading regional health insurer,\u201d Mr Greig said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe exist solely to enable healthier lives for our members and patients and our evolution highlights the vision and dedication of those early pioneers, as well as the incredible contributions of our whole team over the decades and continuing today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really proud to be able to celebrate our heritage and enduring connection to our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_143712\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-143712\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-143712 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/Untitled-design-21-4-600x380.jpg?_t=1724246419\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-143712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chief Risk Officer Jade Ibrahimovic cuts the 90th birthday cake at GMHBA&#8217;s Head Office.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As part of the birthday celebrations a skills clinic was held at GMHBA Stadium with the Geelong Cats for 100 members, each of its 13 sites hosted a morning tea, and a celebratory 90th birthday cake was cut at GMHBA\u2019s head office in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>Hand-written cards were signed by COO of private health insurance Wes Self were posted to 50 members who turned 90 in August, with a 90-year commemorative pin was enclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Greig said GMHBA\u2019s connection to the community continues to run through the fabric of its organisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past financial year, we have invested more than $500,000 into our community, through workplace giving, volunteering, charitable donations, social procurement and strategic partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, this year our partnerships with The Resilience Project and Read The Play have provided access to mental health and wellbeing programs for almost 4,000 young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to the future, GMHBA will have new projects commencing or are already underway.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/EIV1688_75597.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L-R: GMHBA CEO David Greig, Dr Jana Pittman, GMHBA Chair Claire Higgins and Cats Legend Cameron Ling. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recently announced a further return of $62 million in COVID-19-related savings to GMHBA and Frank Health Insurance members and will pay seven weeks of premium for every active membership,\u201d Mr Greig added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis takes the total amount we have returned to members to $147 million.
