SURF Coast Shire residents can now apply for the shire’s dust suppression program for the regions unsealed roads.<\/p>\n

The annual program is conducted on rural roads and assists in reducing the amount of dust generated by passing traffic, especially during the summer period.<\/p>\n

“This program helps our rural towns contain the nuisance that is dust during the summer months,” Cr Libby Stapleton said.<\/p>\n

“I encourage all residents that live on a gravel road and experience issues to apply for this program.”<\/p>\n

As part of the application, council officers will conduct assessments and take a number of factors into consideration including speed limits, traffic volume, proximity to homes and more.<\/p>\n

Applications will close on September 13, with officers conducting their assessments in October and November.<\/p>\n

Works will kick off in December, lasting around three months and ensuring its effectiveness when needed most through the summer months.<\/p>\n

All residents who apply will be notified of the outcomes of their requests.<\/p>\n

As part of the 2023 program a range of unsealed roads across the region received dust suppression including Lorne, Moggs Creek, Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, Deans Marsh, Torquay, and more.<\/p>\n

Dust Mag will used for the suppression, made up of magnesium chloride and applied directly onto the road and absorbed within the top clay surface of the road.<\/p>\n
