A YEAR after its heartbreaking Grand Final defeat, Grovedale went one step further to claim its maiden Division 1 flag.<\/p>\n

The Tigers defeated Geelong Amateur is Sunday’s AFL Barwon Female Football Grand Final to win this year’s Division 1 flag 2.8 (20) to 1.6 (12), as wayward kicking proved to be a common issue for both sides.<\/p>\n

Ammos, who were crowned Division 1 premiers in 2022 and 2023, failed to capitalise on opportunities in the fourth quarter, while Grovedale kicked three behinds to extend their advantage to eight points by the final siren.<\/p>\n

Grovedale co-coach Taylah Hassett was named best-on-ground for her efforts in the Tigers’ midfield.<\/p>\n

It was also Grovedale’s fifth win over Ammos in the two sides’ games in 2024.<\/p>\n

Anglesea won its second flag in two seasons, defeating St Joseph’s in the Division 2 grand final.<\/p>\n

Under coach Luke Cini, who was part of the program’s inaugural premiership side in 2022, Anglesea outlasted St Joseph’s in the decider, outkicking Joeys 5.9 (39) to 3.5 (23).<\/p>\n

In what was also Phoebe Lingham 200th career game, vice-captain Ruby Manson tagged Joeys for two goals, which was bolstered by single goals for Lanhnee Firth, Lily Menhenett and Alexandra Trethewey.<\/p>\n

Hannah Scott kicked two goals for Joeys and Alana Hocking kicked one.<\/p>\n

Anglesea finished the home and away season with eight wins and four losses, before winning both their finals.<\/p>\n

First starting as a group messaging chat less than 12 months ago, not many of Belmont’s players thought they would win a premiership in their inaugural season.<\/p>\n

But the Lions did exactly that at Bisinella Oval on Sunday against Modewarre in Division 3, overcoming the reigning premiers and head coach Nick Allison’s former side, 1.7 (13) to 1.2 (8).<\/p>\n
