THE Geelong Cats have broken their membership record again, with 90,000 members on board ahead of the start of the AFL finals and AFLW season.<\/p>\n
This season marks Geelong’s fourth-consecutive record-breaking year and the 11th time in the past 12 years its membership numbers have climbed.<\/p>\n
The club surpassed its previous all-time record of 82,155 from 2023 in June this year.<\/p>\n
Nearly a third of the 2024 membership base are hometown supporters.<\/p>\n
Another 13 per cent hold interstate memberships and nearly 400 people have thrown their support behind the Cats internationally.<\/p>\n
Geelong Football Club chief executive officer Steve Hocking expressed his gratitude to the club’s members for their support.<\/p>\n
“With more than 90,000 members and more than 275,000 fans attending games at GMHBA Stadium this year, our members contribute to a ‘Team of All’ effort like no other and achieving this is only made possible by the unwavering support of each and every one of you,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The next month is set to be big, with our AFL and VFL teams chasing prosperous finals campaigns, and our AFLW team kickstarting their 2024 season in front of hopefully a jampacked home crowd at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n
“Your support and passion are unmistakably Geelong, and you all play a significant role in helping us succeed on and off the field.”<\/p>\n
Mr Hocking said the club had ambitions to also break its AFLW membership record.<\/p>\n
“Last season, we set a club record for AFLW memberships and led the competition with the largest AFLW membership base.<\/p>\n
“We’re well on track to beat last year’s record and are striving for 10,000 members for the first time.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
