These devices release intense blasts of sound into the ocean to map the ocean floor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/457477219_9214627466_26030.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">South Atlas performed live music on the night.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Data company TGS and energy company SLB have proposed a major seismic blasting project for the Otway Basin.<\/p>\n<p>Surfrider Foundation are among the many groups opposing the developments and believe there is &#8220;no safe way&#8221; to carry out the practice without disrupting local ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>Foundation secretary Darren Noyes-Brown said the film festival event was an absolute showstopper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The turnout was just incredible; it was a complete sell-out. Incredible for a Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were many people in attendance who were aware of the issue, and fantastically, plenty who weren&#8217;t and just wanted to find out more.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/457484473_9214074766_26039.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The &#8216;Stop the Blast&#8217; was echoed loud and clear by all.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;For us, it&#8217;s pretty heartening so many people are concerned about the impacts of seismic blasting, and the negative effects it could have on our ocean.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Seismic Blasting Film Festival also included a Q&amp;A panel with film-makers, as well as chanting and petition signing to send off to local MPs.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Noyes-Brown said there was a chance the film festival could pop up in other parts of Australia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/457314786_9214014166_26130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 150 people attended the inaugural film event.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It seemed like a thing, and something we could roll out in other places.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While it&#8217;s a negative topic, people are keen to come out and take action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s such a big issue, and if we can get more eyes on it and more opposition against it, it&#8217;ll go a long way in stopping this from happening.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 150 people packed into the Aireys Inlet Pub last week to learn more about an environmental issue with local implications.
