AS SPRING arrives and the region starts to open back up, locals and visitors are being invited to pack their bags and visit the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is encouraging people to head out as the September school holidays and AFL Grand Final long weekend draw closer.<\/p>\n

“Spring is arguably one of the best times to visit the Great Ocean Road because the weather is warmer and you can enjoy Victoria’s best beaches without the crowds,” the authority’s director of community, corporate affairs and visitor economy Andy Mathers said.<\/p>\n

This week, bookings opened for the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve, set for its official re-opening on September 20.<\/p>\n

Site clearing works, which started in July as part of the Camping Uplift project, and a recent working bee have resulted in increased safety and camping opportunities for the reserve.<\/p>\n

“We’re thrilled that Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve is open in time for the all-important school holidays and we’re looking forward to a bumper season ahead,” Mr\u00a0Mathers said.<\/p>\n

Among the 10 caravan parks and recreation reserves operated by the authority, dog friendly cabins and powered and unpowered sites are\u00a0on offer.<\/p>\n

Princetown and Port Campbell reserves also opened this week for peak summer bookings.<\/p>\n
