That\u2019s a lot of waste clogging our oceans and piling up in landfill and with plastic taking an average 450 years to start to degrade, The Bungalow wanted to help,\u201d Kerry said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Last Straw campaign, it\u2019s estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean by weight than fish. The good news is that there is a really easy way to help change these statistics.<\/p>\n<p>The Bungalow is joining venues around the country by becoming plastic straw-free by making one simple change \u2013 adopting a policy of giving straws out on request only. This move can reduce straw use in a venue by up to 50 per cent immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry\u2019s passion for the environment is evident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read recently that the first \u2018artificial straw\u2019 was patented in 1888, the same year that National Geographic was founded. National Geographic launched the Planet or Plastic campaign this year, highlighting the urgent need for consumers to stop using plastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not only encouraging our patrons to stop using plastic straws at The Bungalow but to rethink using them in their day to day lives and encourage others to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Skip the straw. In most cases, you don\u2019t need a straw.
