THE Surf Coast sporting community is the big winner from the latest round of the federal government\u2019s Building Better Regions Fund, with two Torquay projects to share in nearly five-and-a-half million dollars in grants.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson visited Banyul-Warri Fields in Torquay North this afternoon to announce a $5 million grant for three multi-purpose indoor courts (next to the existing stadium) and a $360,000 grant for a third soccer pitch in the precinct.<\/p>\n
Both projects are expected to begin construction within this financial year, most likely by early 2019.<\/p>\n
Tenant sports clubs in Torquay North were delighted to hear the news.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means the funds are now there to build a complex capable of not only catering to our growing community but also equipped to attract regional events,\u201d Surfcoast Basketball Association president Nicole Crammond said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a massive plus for the wider community.\u201d<\/p>\n
