FISHERS and visitors can look forward to life returning to normal soon at Fishermans Beach with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority confirming the redevelopment of the beach’s carpark is on schedule.<\/p>\n

The authority told the Surf Coast Times this week Fishermans Beach’s upgraded carpark, as part of the wider Fishos Platform precinct plan, will open to the public later this month.<\/p>\n

Following the re-opening of the carpark, additional works such as the construction of ramps and seating will be finished before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Acting Authority director environment and coastal operations Leia Howes said the land management body has been grateful for the community’s understanding as the works take place.<\/p>\n

“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience as we complete the upgrades to the Fishermans Beach carpark.”<\/p>\n

“The carpark will be ready for summer, offering safer and more accessible beach access for everyone to enjoy.”<\/p>\n

Aside from the authority deciding to use polished concrete paths instead of exposed aggregate, the project has largely gone unchanged.<\/p>\n

Among the new features arising from the project, lighter-coloured asphalt in the carpark has been installed, pedestrian crossing points have been improved, and the addition of security fencing has enhanced the area’s safety.<\/p>\n

Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Better Boating division and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action were responsible for funding the first stages of the project, totalling $1.45 million, while the authority is continuing to pursue grant opportunities to fund additional features outlined in the precinct plan.<\/p>\n

Further grant funding would allow construction of beach access steps, relocation of the historic winch, and path works on the Surf Coast Walk in front of the Salty Dog Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n
