{"id":147403,"date":"2024-10-03T12:26:39","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T02:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=147403"},"modified":"2024-10-03T12:26:39","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T02:26:39","slug":"join-torquay-lions-helping-kids-at-the-royal-childrens-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/join-torquay-lions-helping-kids-at-the-royal-childrens-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Join Torquay Lions helping kids at the Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since 1931, the Good Friday Appeal (GFA) has raised funds for The Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Over the 93 years since, fundraising efforts have supported projects at the hospital that have helped it become world leading.<\/p>\n<p>With support from our Torquay community of fundraisers, the Good Friday Appeal can help the hospital continue to provide world-class care to patients and their families by funding projects in four key areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>State of the art equipment and technology<\/li>\n<li>Ground breaking research<\/li>\n<li>Education and training for staff development, and<\/li>\n<li>Patient and family centred care programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Last year our community raised $ 73,015, a record amount for the Torquay area which runs from Anglesea to Grovedale.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_147404\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-147404\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-147404\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/IMG_3095_74359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-147404\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brainstorming ideas for fundraising activities are (L-R) GFA Torquay area manager Peter McMahon, GFA volunteer Beth Humphries, Torquay Lion Allen Osman and Torquay Lions Club.president Colin Bellis.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Overall, the GFA in 2024 raised $23,368,724 enabling funding of groundbreaking research, state-of-the-art equipment, education, and family-centred care programs at The Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in RCH history, a portion of funds helped take the RCH excellence into the regions by funding equipment and scholarships at six regional health centres &#8211; Barwon Health, Bendigo Health, Grampians Health, Goulburn Valley Health, Albury Wodonga Health, and Latrobe Regional Health.<\/p>\n<p>According to GFA Torquay\u00a0area manager Peter McMahon, there are several ways locals\u00a0can get involved, both as an individual or through group activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Part of my role is to help people set up local fundraisers and I am available most days during daylight hours to provide suggestions and help,&#8221; he said.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The best way to contact me is by email to ben.bon1@bigpond.com or mobile 0411 112 047.<\/li>\n<li>&#8221; Perhaps the suggestions here may get you started.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Donate: You can make a direct donation to the appeal<\/li>\n<li>by visiting our QR Code or website fundraise.goodfridayappeal.com.au\/fundraisers\/Torquay<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer: The GFA always needs volunteers to help with various events and administrative tasks.
