ACROSS two sold out performances at the Airys Inlet Community Hall, the Surf Coast Chamber Players have raised more than $4,000 for Aireys Inlet Rural Australians for Refugees (AIRAR).<\/p>\n

The concert featured a piece commissioned by Australian composer Lachlan Skipworth, the piece, Sealight, was premiered at the event and included Koto, a Japanese instrument.<\/p>\n

Event organiser and AIRAR member Kate Long said having the piece commissioned was an “extraordinary concept” and a highlight of the evening.<\/p>\n

“They all said it was so nice to have something a little bit different and really special to have the world premiere of this piece that Lachlan had written.<\/p>\n

“It was a really lovely piece and the fact that the composer was there, it was just the most amazing afternoon and evening.”<\/p>\n

The chamber also played Franz Shubert’s The Trout where they were joined by professional pianist Berta Brozgul.<\/p>\n

Serving as a fundraiser, the money from the two concerts will go towards AIRAR’s Aid for Afghans fund, supporting people trapped in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

“We have several families that we support, including women who, because of the Taliban, they’re not allowed outside their house unless they’ve got a man with them,” Ms Long said.<\/p>\n

“These people are really struggling to survive, they can’t work, and some of them are really quite professional people and they’ve got families, so we provide money for them every month.”<\/p>\n

AIRAR will host another fundraiser on Saturday, November 16 at the Aires Inlet Community Hall with One Perfect Day, featuring internationally acclaimed singer Bernadette Robinson.<\/p>\n

“She does programs where she sings different, well known singers and she’s really magnificent, her voice is amazing,” Ms Long said.<\/p>\n

“She said she would be happy to come down and do a performance and have all the proceeds go to AIRAR, which is just amazing.<\/p>\n

Funds from the concert will go towards the organisations different projects including their monthly donation to foodbank and the Aid for Afghans Fund.<\/p>\n
