THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) has officially given Eco-Logic Education & Environment Services the green light to keep running tours at Aireys Inlet’s Split Point Lighthouse.<\/p>\n

This week, GORCAPA announced Eco-Logic had been awarded the tender, which followed a public expression of interest process in line with the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA assumed the role of Crown land manager for the Split Point Lighthouse in Aireys Inlet from Surf Coast Shire on May 1.<\/p>\n

At the time of transfer, there were no valid tenure arrangements in place, although Eco-Logic had been running lighthouse tours since 2005.<\/p>\n

Under a five-year agreement, Eco-Logic will bring its knowledge and expertise to the lighthouse visitor experience, a site made famous by its appearance in the popular children’s television series Round The Twist.<\/p>\n

Constructed in 1891, the working lighthouse retains many of its original features, including its staircase, providing visitors with a unique and immersive historical experience.<\/p>\n

The popular Split Point Lighthouse tours have long been recognised as a cornerstone of the Aireys visitor experience.<\/p>\n

“We’re pleased to award the tender to Eco-Logic, whose deep connection to the local community make them a fantastic partner for the Split Point Lighthouse,” GORCAPA director of community, corporate affairs and visitor economy Andy Mathers said.<\/p>\n

“We’re looking forward to working with Eco-Logic and the wider community to ensure the Great Ocean Road remains one of Australia’s most iconic and sought-after tourist destinations.”<\/p>\n

GORCAPA announced in June it would invite applications from interested parties to run commercial tours of the lighthouse.<\/p>\n
