A DOZEN runners, including Wannon federal member Dan Tehan, have completed a 900km charity relay across the region to raise awareness and funds for Creutzfeldt\u2013Jakob disease (CJD), a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder.<\/p>\n

The Run for CJD, now in its second year, aims to support research into the disease, which affects around 50 Australians annually, leading to dementia and death.<\/p>\n

The team, accompanied by support crew, passed through towns including Hamilton, Horsham, and Terang before finishing the relay today.<\/p>\n

Each participant has a personal connection to the disease, including Mr. Tehan, who ran in honour of his late mother.<\/p>\n

“There were plenty of times when the legs wanted to give up but I’m very proud of the team that we have achieved what we set out to do,” Mr Tehan said<\/p>\n

“When you have lost a loved one to CJD it puts things in perspective and our shared experience helped drive the team.<\/p>\n

“If you want to support our effort, you can donate via our donation page at the CJD Support Group Network webpage raise much needed funds to help with research and assist in clinical trials.”<\/p>\n

The team is encouraging further donations through the CJD Support Group Network to help fund research and clinical trials.<\/p>\n

Last year, the event raised more than $100,000 during a relay from Canberra to Warrnambool.<\/p>\n
