{"id":148634,"date":"2024-10-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=148634"},"modified":"2024-10-24T11:29:24","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T00:29:24","slug":"droomer-secures-runner-up-at-peel-pro-junior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/droomer-secures-runner-up-at-peel-pro-junior\/","title":{"rendered":"Droomer secures runner-up at Peel Pro Junior"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JAN JUC surfer Willis Droomer has ripped his way to a runner-up finish at the Peel Pro Junior in Mandurah, Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The former ISA World Junior Champion in Droomer shone throughout the national U\/20 junior event, dropping excellent scores in all his heats on the way to the men&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>Droomer led early on in the final on the strength of a 7.83 (from a possible 10) and backed it up with a solid 6.67 to put himself in\u00a0good stead.<\/p>\n<p>However, fellow finalist Marlon Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD) brought his absolute best and clinched two excellent scores to put it out of Droomer&#8217;s reach as the buzzer sounded.<\/p>\n<p>Droomer said he was thrilled with his result and to have spent some time out west.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is my first time to Mandurah, and coming away with a good result makes the trip\u00a0worth it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/PeelProJnr_WA_D2_24__00383.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Willis Droomer (Jan Juc) finished second in the Peel Pro Junior in Mandurah.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The morning was absolutely cooking, it&#8217;s so good to have some high-performance waves, and to make the final with Marsy\u00a0was epic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the Mandurah event was a huge success.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mandurah most definitely delivered for us, and it&#8217;s been a great way to kick off the WA Pro Surf Series.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Congratulations to our event champions, and big thanks to the Mandurah surfing community for sharing their waves and stoke over the weekend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Droomer also secured a runner-up finish at the Cape Naturaliste Pro QS1000 event at Yallingup last weekend, continuing his success out west.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JAN JUC surfer Willis Droomer has ripped his way to a runner-up finish at the Peel Pro Junior in Mandurah, Western Australia.
