{"id":148667,"date":"2024-10-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-25T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=148667"},"modified":"2024-10-23T22:29:54","modified_gmt":"2024-10-23T11:29:54","slug":"morning-tea-builds-intergenerational-connections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/morning-tea-builds-intergenerational-connections\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning tea builds intergenerational connections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW collaboration, named &#8216;Playful Bridges&#8217;, between Torquay&#8217;s local community house and a not-for-profit organisation combatting isolation and loneliness has built dozens of new connections.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay Community House (TCH) held a successful Intergenerational Morning Tea earlier this week at the TIA Hall on Price Street, partnering up with Friends for Good to celebrate Seniors Festival and Children&#8217;s Week.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/IMG_0756_29554.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Delphi enjoying some artwork on her arm.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Children and parents spent time at the hall engaging in fun activities such as singing, dancing, face painting, arts and crafts and ten-pin bowling.<\/p>\n<p>Local seniors and members of the Torquay Lions Club then attended the event to enjoy a free morning tea alongside the children already there, finding new connections and chatting about a range of topics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/IMG_0787_29643.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Face-painting was a common occurrence at the morning tea.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TCH program coordinator Prue Challis said the event was a great success, with the morning tea bringing joy to more than 30 senior residents and building new connections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/IMG_0788_29569.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jo Klemke and Ivy enjoying the morning tea.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From a community standpoint, events like these create spaces for our locals to spend time with one another and establish those face-to-face connections,&#8221;
