A LOCAL Paralympian has been named as the ambassador for the inaugural Torquay Triathlon this month.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Peacock will take on the role for the November 10 event, and share his sport with the community.<\/p>\n

Mr Peacock, who lives in Leopold, said he was honoured to be the ambassador and see all the juniors and all inclusive athletes compete in the triathlon.<\/p>\n

“I’m thrilled to promote and showcase what both triathlon and Torquay has to offer our wonderful community.<\/p>\n

“I’m really looking forward to seeing all the first timers compete and hopefully see that spark in their eyes once they’ve crossed the finish, realising what they have accomplished.”<\/p>\n

Peacock was introduced to the world of triathlons when he was encouraged to compete in the 2XU series and half Ironmans, and eventually transitioned to para sport.<\/p>\n

The triathlete has represented Australia on the world stage including at the World Triathlon Paratriathlon Series and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n

The Torquay Triathlon, organised by Andrew Letts and Lisa Anderson, is a Super Sprint event taking place on the Torquay Esplanade.<\/p>\n

Competitors will complete a 400m open water swim, 15km cycle and 4km run.<\/p>\n

Ms Anderson said having Mr Peacock as the ambassador was the perfect fit for them and showcasing the event as something anyone could take part in.<\/p>\n

“We really wanted to showcase this event as a sport that anyone could be involved in at any age and any ability and I think that he was really reflective of that.”<\/p>\n

Throughout the event, Peacock will be on hand, helping prepare cpmpetitors, giving them tips and tricks as they head into the transition areas, down at the swim line and calling events and runners as they cross the finish line.<\/p>\n

Mr Letts said having the presence of a Paralympian is enormous for the event.<\/p>\n

“He’s somebody who’s quite accomplished, obviously he represents Australia, he just competed in the world champs, I think it\u00a0just lifts the positivity, it increases the inclusivity.”<\/p>\n

Registrations for the event will be open until 7am on the morning of the event, for those wanting to register in person, online registrations will close on November 9.<\/p>\n

Volunteers are still needed on the day of the event, with various roles available.<\/p>\n
