{"id":148926,"date":"2024-11-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=148926"},"modified":"2024-11-01T14:47:04","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T03:47:04","slug":"local-venues-rock-music-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/local-venues-rock-music-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Local venues rock music awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWO of the Surf Coast&#8217;s favourite live music venues have been recognised at this year&#8217;s Music Victoria Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The Torquay Hotel and the Anglesea-based The Sound Doctor were both honoured at last week&#8217;s event with the title of Best Regional Venue or Presenter, in the over 50 gigs and under 50 gigs award categories respectively.<\/p>\n<p>For The Sound Doctor, the win was so unexpected, no one from the team was present at the award ceremony to accept the award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a massive surprise, but a great honour too, particularly because we were up against some incredible venues and promotors,&#8221; The Sound Doctor&#8217;s Andi Lawson-Moore said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_148928\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148928\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-148928 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/LukeHindsonTorquayH_00993.jpg?_t=1730263355\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-148928\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Torquay Hotel&#8217;s Luke Hindson with award sponsor OzTix&#8217;s commercial director Seth Clancy. Photo: SAM DAGOSTINO\/SDP MEDIA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said Torquay Hotel had some exciting improvements on the horizon, including new curtains to enhance the band room&#8217;s sound, PA system improvements, and the redevelopment of the venue&#8217;s beer garden to increase its utility.<\/p>\n<p>Music Victoria chief executive officer Simone Schinkel said it was inspiring to reflect on a Music Victoria Award&#8217;s impact on the state&#8217;s artists, venues and festivals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Previous winners have often shared how these honours elevate visibility and recognition, and this year&#8217;s nominees and recipients are worthy of it all.<\/p>\n<p>Neo-soul singer songwriter and Geelong local Gloria Ragesh, who performs under the moniker Wild Gloriosa, was also celebrated at this year&#8217;s awards with the Diaspora Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TWO of the Surf Coast&#8217;s favourite live music venues have been recognised at this year&#8217;s Music Victoria Awards.
