{"id":149039,"date":"2024-11-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=149039"},"modified":"2024-10-30T16:48:09","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T05:48:09","slug":"surf-coast-supers-reign-at-state-titles-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/surf-coast-supers-reign-at-state-titles-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf Coast SUPers reign at State Titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWO Surf Coast locals have secured a sport in this year\u2019s Australian SUP Titles with superb performances last weekend at the state-level event in Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc\u2019s Emma Web and Torquay\u2019s Matt Takle both produced massive moments at Point Impossible last Saturday to win the Victorian SUP Titles respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Web put on a thrilling display in the 10-foot Open finals to emerge victorious, getting the best out of the first set, riding her way to a 7.00-point score, before continuing her dominance on another wave.<\/p>\n<p>Her other ride included an extended nose ride and subsequent turns, which earned her an additional 6.17 points and a greater share of the lead.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/openmen_NC_0F3A0941_91232.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Champion Matt Takle (blue) with finalists Troy Ashton (Mount Duneed), Koyu Matsunaga (Ventnor) and Rick Pettifer (Jan Juc).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Web, after combining two rides for a combined 13.17 total, was head and shoulders above the field by the blowing of the final siren, leaving the rest of the field in a combination situation.<\/p>\n<p>Placing in second was Sandringham\u2019s Lucy Bell (5.37), while Rosebud\u2019s Xanthe Rivett (5.00) rounded out the podium in third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s good seeing all the girls, we only get to see each other when we get together for competitions so it&#8217;s really fun surfing with them,\u201d Web said after the win.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/EmmaWebb_NC_0F3A061_09190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2024 Victorian SUP Titles Open Women&#8217;s champion Emma Web.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels great to take out the final, I love surfing any sort of board, so I think it&#8217;s just good to get out there in the waves and get people involved in the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to mix it up, so I was just trying to get a nose ride off the take off and then put in some big turns as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Open Men&#8217;s division was filled with excitement and high drama highlighted by the appearance of a rogue bomb set.<\/p>\n<p>Takle took the opportunity to unleash a powerful backhand attack, delivering on nothing short of spectacular.<\/p>\n<p>He achieved the highest score of the event with a remarkable 9.17, and then executed a series of precise backhand snaps to earn him an 8.33, securing his victory in the final moments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw a set coming but I didn\u2019t know if I was going to get there in time, so I just waited and had a go, luckily for me it came in time,\u201d Takle said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels amazing to take it out and I\u2019m super stoked.
