THE Geelong Cats will need to use another one of its nine lives this weekend to land a spot in the AFLW finals.<\/p>\n
A win this evening (Friday, November 1) at GMHBA Stadium against the top four placed Adelaide Crows will keep Geelong within the hunt for the top eight, pending a few other results.<\/p>\n
The Cats also need Essendon and Melbourne to drop points against Carlton and Collingwood respectively.<\/p>\n
Last weekend, Geelong continued to walk the finals tightrope by defeating West Coast by 33-points at Mineral Resources Park.<\/p>\n
Star forward Aisling Moloney bagged a career-best six goals, becoming only the fourth player in AFLW history to reach the milestone.<\/p>\n
Georgie Prespakis (27 disposals and nine clearances) and Nina Morrison (19 disposals and eight tackles) were again a huge threat through the midfield, while Mikayla Bowen, Rachel Kearns and Jacqueline Parry also had a strong presence during the match.<\/p>\n
Geelong Cats coach Daniel Lowther said he was proud of his side’s will to keep their dream alive.<\/p>\n
“Very pleased. It’s always a challenge playing over here [Western Australia].<\/p>\n
“We had a lot to play for, and we want to finish off as strong as we can.<\/p>\n
“We know there’s a few things which need to go our way above us, but its not really our concern. We will just try to do what we need to do.”<\/p>\n
Star goalkicker Aisling Moloney echoed his sentiment.<\/p>\n
“The spirit is strong within the group. It’s been a tough year, but it’s put us in a strong position heading into next week.<\/p>\n
“You’re only as good as your last game, and we are really looking forward to the matchup.”<\/p>\n
The Geelong v Adelaide matchup will kick off Indigenous Round across the AFLW competition.<\/p>\n
Cats players will wear a guernsey designed by Keeray Woorroong and Yorta Yorta woman Sherry Johnstone.<\/p>\n
