THE inaugural Buckley’s 24hr Adventure Race descended on the Surf Coast at the weekend, with 39 teams taking on the challenge.<\/p>\n

On Saturday and Sunday, teams mountain biked and trekked through the region, setting off from Anglesea.<\/p>\n

Race director Chris Dixon said it was a great 24 hours and it went really well, with perfect conditions and a fantastic location.<\/p>\n

“From a location perspective, that really added to the vibes on the weekend and put that together with perfect weather, it’s just unreal.<\/p>\n

Teams rode through the night to complete the challenge.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Those taking on the challenge did not find out the exact course until the morning of the event, where they were then required to navigate\u00a0their way.<\/p>\n

“Teams collected their maps and then disappeared into coffee shops and nearby cafes to do their map planning and then turned up, nervous of course, ready to race,” Mr Dixon said.<\/p>\n

All 39 teams, made up of groups of two and four, managed to complete the course.<\/p>\n

“I think we got it right with the difficulty versus achievability, but we certainly pushed people to well beyond what they thought they could do, which was unreal,” Mr Dixon said.<\/p>\n

The full course was 125kms, while participants also had the option of completing the half course option.<\/p>\n

Team KEEN Torq-ers were first to finish in the full course, followed by the Rapid Rangers in second and Buckleys and None in third.<\/p>\n

Crossing the finish line first in the half course was team Tiger Adventure Racing Maniacs, Night Riders in second and Lost the Plot in third.<\/p>\n

Mr Dixon said participants from a range of experience levels took part, with plenty of positive feedback.<\/p>\n

“The experienced racers, they loved it, they thought it was good, complex navigation, beautiful scenery, fun trails. The people who are new to the sport really enjoyed the camaraderie on course, lots of people helping each other out, very encouraging.”<\/p>\n
