THE AFLW season is over for the Geelong Cats, with their slim finals chances dashed with a four-point loss to the Adelaide Crows.<\/p>\n
A brave Cats outfit went down 32-28 to the top-four Crows in front of more than 2,200 people at GMHBA Stadium on Friday last week.<\/p>\n
It was a game of two completely different halves, with Geelong dominating the early going with flair and ferocity.<\/p>\n
Forwards Shelley Scott and Kate Surman and star on-baller Georgie Prepaskis hit the scoreboard, while the Crows struggled to convert their shots on goal.<\/p>\n
A different looking Crows team came out in the second half and applied great pressure to put them back in the match.<\/p>\n
They kicked the only two goals of the third term, giving them a one-point buffer heading into the final change.<\/p>\n
The Crows kicked away early in the final stanza through a clutch third goal from Caitlin Gould and managed to stifle Geelong’s offence and hold on.<\/p>\n
Cats head coach Daniel Lowther said he was proud of his side’s fight but was disappointed with missing a finals chance.<\/p>\n
“It’s a shame. We would have loved to have had a chance to play next week.<\/p>\n
“To play a strong first half against the Crows was really good. There was good chain from defence and strong efficiency, but they got on top in the second half.<\/p>\n
“Our girls fought a good fight and it was a good game to watch. We are really proud of our season.”<\/p>\n
Geelong midfielder Nina Morrison said there was plenty to be proud of from the Crows match and the season.<\/p>\n
“I thought we were so good in the first half particularly. To go into half time up ahead of a great side is always a good sign.<\/p>\n
“We just dropped off away portions of the second half, but to fight away and get within four points in the enBY NATHAN RIVALLAND<\/p>\n
