A LONG-awaited hockey pitch at Banyul-Warri Fields in Torquay North is a step closer, with the start of a tender process for the project.<\/p>\n
The facility will include a new hockey pitch equipped with lighting, a scoreboard, spectator seating, and new car parking.<\/p>\n
The works will ensure the Torquay Tornadoes Hockey Club and other community clubs enjoy high-quality facilities for training, competitions, and events for years to come.<\/p>\n
As well as boosting local sport, the project will also create opportunities for local contractors, businesses, and suppliers to get involved, strengthening the local economy.<\/p>\n
The pitch at Banyul-Warri Fields, located to the east of the existing three soccer pitches, is one of 16 projects being delivered through the Victorian government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, which includes five projects in the Geelong and Surf Coast regions.<\/p>\n
Other major investments in the region include a new indoor sports centre at Armstrong Creek, a new indoor sporting complex at Waurn Ponds, upgrades to Stead Park hockey facility in Corio, and Stage 2 of the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre in Torquay.<\/p>\n
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced the start of the search for a head contractor for the hockey facilities last week.<\/p>\n
“New hockey facilities at Banyul-Warri Fields will provide the community with a fantastic, top-notch venue to play and enjoy the sport they love while supporting local businesses and creating jobs,” she said.<\/p>\n
“This investment is about more than just sport – it’s about creating a community hub where people come together, where local talent can shine, and where young players can dream big, right here in the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
