{"id":149981,"date":"2024-11-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=149981"},"modified":"2024-11-13T18:22:36","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T07:22:36","slug":"local-surfers-win-at-victorian-micro-groms-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/local-surfers-win-at-victorian-micro-groms-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Local surfers win at Victorian Micro Groms Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A LOCAL trio topped the podium in their divisions at the Victorian Micro Groms Cup surfing event over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Estella Carbonelli (Jan Juc), Teddy Robertson (Torquay) and Olive Robertson (Jan Juc) were victorious in the Under 12 Girls, Under 12 Boys and Under 10 Girls respectively at\u00a0Torquay Beach.<\/p>\n<p>The state surfing event saw more than 100 competitors take to the water with their friends to gain valuable professional surf competition experience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/OliveRobertson_Micro_28886.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jan Juc surfer Olive Robertson in action.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Surfers were treated to fantastic waves throughout the whole weekend, with waves in the three-to-four feet range gracing the lineup.<\/p>\n<p>Teddy Robertson said he was stoked to take out the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were so lucky to get pumping Torquay Point. It was such an awesome event!&#8221; Olive Robertson agreed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was the best comp ever, pumping Torquay Point, the best prizes and surfing and hanging all weekend with my mates,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/StevieOday_MicroGrom_28890.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stevie O&#8217;Day secured a third-place finish in the Under 14 Girls.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so stoked that Surfing Victoria put it on for us and I already can&#8217;t wait for the next one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the premier Under 14 Girls division it was top seed Rose Holland who reigned supreme.<\/p>\n<p>The powerful goofy footer looked at ease in the event final, powering past Phillip Island&#8217;s Scarlett Rennie with an excellent 8.00 ride.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing in third was Stevie O&#8217;Day (Torquay) and fourth went to Sophie Day (Rye).<\/p>\n<p>The Under 14 Boys division was won by Bondi surfer Hugo Spierings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/TeddyRobertson_Micro_28880.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Teddy Robertson being chaired up the beach after winning the Under 12 Boys.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The New South Welshmen dominated the event and his divisional final, locking in his final heat total of 16.33 (out of a possible 20) within his first two waves.<\/p>\n<p>Second place went to Mornington Peninsula rider George Everist, third was Liam Gason (North Steyne) and fourth went to Torquay&#8217;s Liam Thomson.<\/p>\n<p>Other event winners included Sani Hellman (Ulladulla) In the Under 10 Boys and Ronnie Hellman (Ulladulla) in the Under 8 Mixed.<\/p>\n<p>For full results, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/surfingvic.com\/live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surfingvic.com\/live<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A LOCAL trio topped the podium in their divisions at the Victorian Micro Groms Cup surfing event over the weekend.
