MORE reliable high-quality water will soon be available to Gellibrand residents, with upgrades well underway on the town’s new water treatment plant.<\/p>\n
The $10 million plant on Old Beech Forrest Road will be more bushfire resilient, reliable and efficient and ensure greater water security for the small Otway town.<\/p>\n
Several key features have already been installed on site including a new bushfire-resilient treatment plant building, a dissolved air filtration and new electrical supplies and underground assets.<\/p>\n
The plant building is now being fitted out with mechanical equipment ahead of planned infrastructure works.<\/p>\n
Barwon Water general manager planning, delivery and environment, Seamus Butcher said he was excited the project is coming to fruition.<\/p>\n
“This major upgrade is part of our customer promise to continue to deliver high quality and reliable water services across the region, Barwon Water general manager planning, delivery and environment, Seamus Butcher said.<\/p>\n
“The upgrade was one of our top 10 projects in our 2018-2023 Pricing Period.<\/p>\n
“It will serve the Gellibrand community for many years to come.”<\/p>\n
The new-high quality facility service replaces the current plant which is reaching the end of its operational life.<\/p>\n
Until its completion in late 2025, the existing plant will remain in operation.<\/p>\n
Gellibrand’s supply of water will continue to be sourced from Lardner Creek and brought to drinking standards at the facility.<\/p>\n
