THE region’s biggest largest coastal authority is emphasising safety and planning ahead of the busiest time of the year with summer starting in less than a fortnight.<\/p>\n
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority says residents and visitors should plan accordingly, to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer on the coast.<\/p>\n
Director of community, corporate affairs and visitor economy Andy Mathers said this year’s the message is simple \u2013 be informed, be prepared, be safe with an emphasis on water safety, cliff safety, emergency preparedness, and safe travel.<\/p>\n
“Whether you’re a short-term visitor or a resident now is the time to understand your risk, create an up-to-date plan, know where to go to stay informed and look out for each other,” Mr Mathers said.<\/p>\n
“If you’re staying at one of our Great Ocean Road Parks, please follow all evacuation directions provided by our experienced park managers.”<\/p>\n
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting one of the hottest summers on record with the potential for more extreme heat events expected across the region.<\/p>\n
The Authority has also launched a new webpage listing all designated Bushfire Places of Last Resort across the region to assist residents during bushfire season.<\/p>\n
The Authority recently held a joint briefing with Life Saving Victoria on Thursday, October 31 ahead of summer.<\/p>\n
More than 55 people heard the latest insights on the upcoming season with a detailed outlook on bushfire preparedness, response plans, weather forecasts and the latest Drowning Report.<\/p>\n
“They are trained to ensure your safety during an emergency and will provide timely instructions on what to do,” Mr Mathers said.<\/p>\n
“So grab your sunscreen, plan ahead, and let’s make it a summer to remember \u2013 for all the right reasons.”<\/p>\n
When heading to the beach, residents and visitors should download the Beachsafe app to receive real-time updates on beach conditions and rip currents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
