THE Surf Coast and Bellarine’s best lifesavers have topped the podium at the first carnival of the Life Saving Victoria Summer Sport series.<\/p>\n
Athletes from Ocean Grove, Anglesea, Lorne, Torquay and Jan Juc were amongst 180 competitors from across the state competing at Jan Juc Beach last weekend.<\/p>\n
Under 14 competitor Grayson Hyde (Ocean Grove) was a standout at the event, dominating his age group and winning the iron, board and surf race.<\/p>\n
Another to achieve a three-peat was Summer Morgan (Anglesea), who reigned supreme in the Under15 female iron, board and surf race.<\/p>\n
Teammate Noah Chapple did a double in the Under 15 male iron and surf race, while Jasmine Hume took top spot in the Under 17 female iron, surf race and open female surf race.<\/p>\n
Anglesea’s youth mixed team took out the cameron relay, while Ocean Grove claimed the youth mixed board relay.<\/p>\n
LSV summer sports event co-ordinator Tim Watson said the first youth\/senior carnival of the season was “out of the box”.<\/p>\n
“It was one of those days with beautiful weather and good surf conditions.<\/p>\n
“We had plenty of mixed racing, and everyone really enjoyed it.<\/p>\n
“The conditions gave everyone a good little hitout, and all in all it was a really good day.”<\/p>\n
The carnival also featured a presentation from support organisation The Shaka Project.<\/p>\n
More than 50 people attended the workshop in the Jan Juc SLSC clubhouse which helped to ignite conversations around mental health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
