TORQUAY Lions Club has begun its annual Christmas Cake fundraising drive, offering hundreds of popular Lions cakes and puddings to residents in the Surf Coast community.<\/p>\n
Torquay Lion Brian Keane said the Lions’ cakes and puddings were a treasured part of the organisation’s yearly drives, offering affordable and high quality treats to residents across Torquay.<\/p>\n
“We do this Australia-wide as Lions and the proceeds that come out of it is two-fold,” Mr Keane said.<\/p>\n
“Each purchase of a Lions cake goes towards research into children’s cancer, mobility aids for kids with a disability and blindness prevention.<\/p>\n
“Additional proceeds from the cakes also goes into the Torquay Lions’ coffers, which is then redirected into the community programs we support in Torquay.<\/p>\n
“We make every cent count.”<\/p>\n
The Torquay Lions have placed Christmas cakes and puddings at the Torquay Newsagent, Bendigo Bank, Offshore Physio, and the Torquay Salvos.<\/p>\n
There will also be cakes available at the Cowrie Market on December 15 and at each Farmer’s market.<\/p>\n
In total, the local Lions club has received more than 500 cakes to give to the community.<\/p>\n
1.5kg cakes cost $20, 1kg cakes cost $16, 900g puddings are going at $16, 400g puddings will set you back $10 and 80g cake slices are just $2.<\/p>\n
“They’re quality cakes, we can promise people that they are buying quality stuff, it also allows us to get into the community and meet people face-to-face and interact with our local traders,” Mr Keane said.<\/p>\n
“We thank the public for supporting us with this each year and we look forward to spreading the Christmas spirit again this year.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
