THE Bells Beach Longboard Classic will return in September next year after being locked in by key stakeholders for a further three years.<\/p>\n
The State Government and the World Surf League (WSL) last week extended their partnership for the Bells Beach surfing extravaganza through to 2027, thanks to the Government’s Regional Events Fund.<\/p>\n
Next year’s event will take place from September 17 to 21 and will showcase the best longboarders from around the globe. A Victorian wildcard in the men’s and women’s competitions will again be supported in 2025.<\/p>\n
It will provide an invaluable opportunity for homegrown talent to surf their local break against the world’s best.<\/p>\n
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said the Government was thrilled to be a partner for the event.<\/p>\n
“These events bring the world’s best surfers to Victoria, showcasing our extraordinary coastline to millions globally while driving tourism and economic benefits for the region,” he said.<\/p>\n
“By locking in the Longboard Classic and the Rip Curl Pro, we’re cementing Victoria as Australia’s premier destination for surfing events and giving local surfers a chance to shine on the global stage through the Victorian wildcard program.”<\/p>\n
World Surf League APAC president Andrew Stark said the league was thrilled to be coming back to Bells Beach.<\/p>\n
“[It] is such a fantastic wave to have on this World Longboard Tour, so it’s excellent to have it locked in for years to come,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Seeing the championship tour here at Easter annually and then the WLT here later in the year is not only a testament to the versatility of the waves at Bells but of the fantastic support shown to surfing by the state.”<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant echoed the sentiment.<\/p>\n
