TWO local organisations have teamed up to help the one in three Greater Geelong residents struggling with food insecurity.<\/p>\n
Geelong Regional Libraries teamed up with Geelong Foodshare yesterday (Thursday, December 12) for the inaugural Summer Food Drive.<\/p>\n
Selected libraries around the region accepted fresh produce donations to be distributed to Geelong Foodshare’s network.<\/p>\n
Donations from home gardeners, community gardens and hobby farmers included seasonal fruits, freshly picked vegetables and perishables.<\/p>\n
Geelong Regional Libraries chief executive officer Vanessa Schernickau said the organisation was thrilled to assist with food insecurity in the region.<\/p>\n
“It’s a simple yet powerful way for our community to come together and make a meaningful difference and support families during what are challenging times for so many,” Ms Schernickau said. “Your generosity [makes] a world of difference.”<\/p>\n
Geelong Foodshare head of impact Felicia Bell agreed.<\/p>\n
“As the cost of living crisis intensifies during the festive season, access to fresh, locally grown produce becomes even more critical,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Every resident deserves healthy, culturally appropriate food to share with loved ones, and together, we can make that a reality this holiday season.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
