PARTICIPATION is expected to reach an all-time high next Friday (December 27) for the 11th annual Roo Run.<\/p>\n

Event leader Julian Spence said entries are already at double what they were at this point in 2023.<\/p>\n

“It’s huge for us,” Mr Spence said. “Usually, most people enter in those few days after Christmas, so it’s nice to get a much better heads-up well ahead of time.<\/p>\n

“Based on this, we are looking at it being the biggest one yet, which is capped at 1000. We’ve never been in this position before, so we are stoked.”<\/p>\n

The 2024 Roo Run will see both elite and recreational athletes race in 1.5-kilometre, four-kilometre and eight-kilometre Grommet Gallops on the beaches, riverbanks and clifftops of Anglesea.<\/p>\n

Mr Spence said event organisers have locked in some “quality athletes” who will be making their way to the Surf Coast to compete.<\/p>\n

“We’ve probably got the deepest field so far, in terms of the top end,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We are attracting some great quality. Last year’s winner Toby Menday is running, Brady Threlfall who is a sub 2:20 marathoner is as well, and Olympian Ellie Pashley has also entered.<\/p>\n

“We’ve certainly got some good ones.”<\/p>\n

He said the event could not happen without the support of local businesses and people.<\/p>\n

“It’s been incredible. All the community groups have put their hand up to help out and we can’t thank them enough.<\/p>\n

“It keeps us going to be perfectly honest. There resources are invaluable.”<\/p>\n
