Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Much of the program has been locked in for the past year, meaning Holden will have to wait a little longer to unveil his first full program after stepping into the top job in July 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we&#8217;re trying to do with Season 2025 is really just give an incredible experience to Geelong [and] give the community shows that wouldn&#8217;t otherwise be able to tour here \u2013 just great stories, do what theatre does best,&#8221; Holden said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can often get a bit lost in the day-to-day and I want this to be an escape for people, a place where they can spend two hours sitting with friends, family, colleagues and have an escape.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What art does so well is show us ourselves but in a different format, in a different context and I think these stories, particularly the ones that are classic, that we keep returning to, they give us hope.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468645850_5911191335_58548.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Sydney Dance Company&#8217;s momenta will run from May 14 to May 15 and promises to take audiences on a journey into the poetry and physicality of human bonds. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first of the season&#8217;s nine core performances will begin in March with the Sydney Theatre Company&#8217;s <em>The Dictionary of Lost Words<\/em>, the critically acclaimed stage adaption of the best-selling debut novel by Australian writer Pip Williams.<\/p>\n<p>A fictionalised tale of a true event, <em>The Dictionary of Lost Words<\/em> follows the making of the Oxford English Dictionary. When the editor&#8217;s daughter Esme discovers words in common use, particularly those used by and about women, are not being included, she begins to compile her own dictionary.<\/p>\n<p>Holden said the production exemplifies what the 2025 season is all about: an extraordinary tale, beautifully produced, in this instance with stunning costumes and sets.<\/p>\n<p>It will be joined on the program by Peter Evans&#8217; celebrated take on <em>Romeo &amp; Juliet<\/em>, Opera Australia&#8217;s portrayal of <em>La Boh\u00e8me<\/em> \u2013 the original bohemian love story that inspired <em>RENT<\/em> and <em>Moulin Rouge<\/em> \u2013 and coming-of-age drama <em>Looking for Alibrandi<\/em>, based on the generation-defining 1992 novel of the same name by Melina Marchetta.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[They&#8217;re] just these wonderfully powerful stories that we, as a human, as a community, we keep coming back to,&#8221; Holden said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_152764\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152764\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-152764\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468520125_5911191235_25062-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468520125_5911191235_25062-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468520125_5911191235_25062-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468520125_5911191235_25062-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468520125_5911191235_25062.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-152764\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rounding out Season 2025 is Bell Shakespeare&#8217;s raw and magnetic Romeo and Juliet, which will hit the stage in November.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Malthouse Theatre&#8217;s rendition of <em>The Birds<\/em> promises audiences a frightening night of theatre when it hits Geelong Arts Centre in June, while <em>Duck Pond<\/em> offers an exuberant circus take on <em>Swan Lake<\/em> and <em>The Light Inside<\/em> brings together two of the world&#8217;s great First Nations for a work that honours their mother countries and the spirit that calls them home.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 season will also see the return of the Family Magic program, which will feature seven heartfelt performances aimed at sparking a lifelong long of the arts in children, while Delightful Days and Matinees will offer six daytime experiences over the course of the year, including a tribute to Dionne Warwick and the songs of Burt Bacharach on February 19.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its third year, the REWIRE program is also back for Geelong Art Centre&#8217;s 2025 season and will spotlight five vibrant, daring and unconventional new voices that push the limits of imagination.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_152765\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152765\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-152765\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468551003_5911191302_25103-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468551003_5911191302_25103-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468551003_5911191302_25103-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468551003_5911191302_25103-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/468551003_5911191302_25103.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-152765\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Opera Australia will return to Geelong Arts Centre in July with La Boh\u00e8me, one of the best-loved operas of all time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the 2025 season, as Holden continues to make his mark on the arts centre, developing local talent and creating new connections between that talent and professional artists is high on the agenda.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love the community aspect of this centre,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s so many incredible community theatre groups and community dance groups that use this centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How can we bring them into a professional setting?
