TWO shipping containers have been temporarily placed at Torquay Front Beach to assist the Torquay SLSC with storing its essential\u00a0rescue equipment.<\/p>\n

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority and Life Saving Victoria have teamed up to help maintain access to the gear following significant storm damage at Torquay Surf Beach.<\/p>\n

Multiple access points along the beach have been closed or altered since November, preventing the club from using some of its vital equipment.<\/p>\n

The authority’s coastal reserves manager Caleb Hurrell said the measures would aid all parties during this busy summer period.<\/p>\n

“These measures will ensure the Surf Lifesaving Club has temporary access to its rescue equipment while we develop longer-term plans to restore the beach ramp.<\/p>\n

“The club plays a vital role in our community, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while we work together to maintain these essential services over the busy summer period.”<\/p>\n

80 rock bags have been installed below the seawall and nearby ramp to prevent further erosion.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Last month, 80 rock bags each weighing more than a tonne were installed on the beach as a temporary measure to help prevent further erosion and damage to the seawall.<\/p>\n

Specialist engineers with expertise in marine structures and environmental conditions continue to assess long-term remediation options for the beach access ramp.<\/p>\n

“Public safety is our top priority as we continue addressing the significant storm damage at the Surf Beach,” Mr Hurrell said.<\/p>\n

During this period, part of the Surf Beach Drive car park will be closed, with beachgoers encouraged to use alternative parking at Voss Circuit or Spring Creek.<\/p>\n
