Surf Coast on global stage in Cadel Road Race <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race has wrapped up for another year, with the 10th<\/sup> edition of the event delivering incredible benefits for our region.<\/p>\n

It started with the Surf Coast Classic men\u2019s and women\u2019s races from Lorne to Torquay last week, with thousands roadside cheering them on.<\/p>\n

It was followed by a huge weekend of cycling. I was thrilled to make my debut in the TAC People\u2019s Ride, while fellow Councillor Joel Grist again tackled the long course which took in the Surf Coast and hinterland \u2013 just like the pros.<\/p>\n

Council hosted its Welcome Wave event, giving the women\u2019s teams a warm Surf Coast welcome at Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club. There was a moving Welcome to Wadawurrung Country, as well as native animals and a footy handball competition \u2013 lapped up by the international athletes.<\/p>\n

Overall, more than 120,000 fans attended the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s such an important event for the Surf Coast, cementing our status as a cycling destination and showcasing our region to a global audience.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a great rev up for a huge year of cycling, as we countdown to the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Lorne on 19 October.<\/p>\n

\nNow open: event grants <\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking of a rev up, the Torquay Rotary Motor Show returns this Sunday 9 February.<\/p>\n

Held on The Esplanade, the event features an amazing range of vehicles on display. There is also food, refreshments and entertainment.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got the tough task of selecting a Mayor\u2019s Choice award winner. I know there are so many great cars and so much pride on the line. Wish me luck!<\/p>\n

The Torquay Rotary Motor Show is a previous recipient in our Event Grants Program. The program has opened its latest round of applications.<\/p>\n

Are you a not-for-profit or commercial event organiser hosting an event in the Surf Coast? Check if your event is eligible for funding in the Tourism category or the Boutique Creative\/Special Focus category via surfcoastevents.com.au\/event-organisers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Do you know a Local Legend?<\/strong><\/p>\n

From surf life saving clubs and neighbourhood houses, to advocacy and environmental efforts \u2013 our community is packed with people and groups making a positive difference.<\/p>\n

Our Local Legends program provides well-deserved recognition for those who make the Surf Coast a better place to live and visit.<\/p>\n

I encourage community members to share their Local Legend, with nominations now open.<\/p>\n

There are four categories: Community Commitment and Community Impact awards for individuals, and Community Inclusion and Volunteer Excellence awards for groups.<\/p>\n

All nominees will be celebrated during a National Volunteer Week Council event in May.<\/p>\n

Nominate before 15 March at surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/LocalLegends<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n
