AGRICULTURAL scientist Kate Lockhart has been selected as the Voices of Corangamite candidate for Corangamite.<\/p>\n
Ms Lockhart, who has lived on the Bellarine for almost 20 years, said she was committed to advocating for local issues, including cost-of-living relief, secure housing, and better infrastructure.<\/p>\n
“I will fight for real cost-of-living relief and make secure housing a priority. My pledge to voters is clear: I will listen, work hard, and focus on what matters most,” she said.<\/p>\n
Ms Lockhart has worked in China, Thailand, and Europe but said she remains deeply connected to regional Australia.<\/p>\n
She grew up working summers on her family farm in central Victoria and now balances her career with raising two daughters.<\/p>\n
She has been involved in community groups and initiatives focused on gender equality, including leading grant applications and projects to support women and girls.<\/p>\n
In 2023, she received the City of Greater Geelong Women in Community Life Award for Climate Action.<\/p>\n
“The Community Independents movement is built on action \u2013 on climate, gender equity, integrity, and transparency,” Lockhart said.<\/p>\n
These values are what I have worked for my entire life. I want to bring real, practical leadership to Corangamite that aligns with these principles.”<\/p>\n
Ms Lockhart also highlighted the challenges of population growth in the region, particularly in relation to public transport and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
