THE Geelong Cats will look to continue their purring start to the 2025 AFL season against the St Kilda Saints on Saturday night (March 22).<\/p>\n
Geelong is coming off a huge 78-point win over the Fremantle Dockers in their first match of the year at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n
In game one in the hoops, Bailey Smith showed off why he will be a weapon for the Cats in 2025.<\/p>\n
Smith dominated play, amassing 32 possessions, seven clearances and kicked one goal.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old was given great assistance from backman turned ruck Sam De Koning, Jack Henry, Max Holmes and the much-improved Mitch Knevitt.<\/p>\n
Cats supporters also got to witness Jeremy Cameron kick his 650th AFL goal.<\/p>\n
Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield said he was very proud of his side.<\/p>\n
“It was good. Feels like it’s been a really long preseason, but we were ready.<\/p>\n
“I felt like we had three really good quarters of footy. We didn’t execute as we would have liked in that third quarter. It’s hard to stop [the momentum], but we arrested it.”<\/p>\n
Geelong’s opponents this week in St Kilda were demolished by 65 points at the hands of the Adelaide Crows in Round 1.<\/p>\n
Recent history suggests Geelong might have a game on their hands this weekend, having lost two of their past three clashes with the Saints.<\/p>\n
Geelong was defeated by 18 points in the last matchup in Round 23, 2024.<\/p>\n
