THE Surf Coast Suns will get a pavilion of their own if the Coalition forms power at the coming federal election, with Liberal candidate for Corangamite Darcy Dunstan making a $3.4 million commitment yesterday (Thursday, March 20).<\/p>\n

The works will include a new pavilion, clubrooms and an upper-level spectator viewing area for the football and netball club based at Banyul-Warri Fields in Torquay North.<\/p>\n

The Liberals say improved local facilities are needed so more Torquay locals, especially junior and senior players at the Surf Coast Suns, have the facilities they need to play the sports they love.<\/p>\n

“Delivering a new pavilion, club rooms and seating area is essential to supporting the club’s growth,” Mr Dunstan said.<\/p>\n

“With upgraded amenities, our local athletes will have the facilities they need to grow and excel, and Torquay will have a more vibrant community hub.”<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Suns president Jay Williams said his club had grown enormously over the past five years.<\/p>\n

“This new sporting facility will support growth not only for us, but other sporting clubs in Torquay.<\/p>\n

“We have taken these plans to other forms of government over the past few years, and Darcy has been the only person to follow through on his support after hearing all about it.<\/p>\n

“We have finally created a pathway for so many kids to play senior sport here. However, we now need the infrastructure to support this pathway.”<\/p>\n

Mr Williams said if this development went ahead, it would benefit countless children, families and senior players throughout the whole community.<\/p>\n

A date for this year’s federal election has not yet been set, but the latest day a typical simultaneous half-Senate and House of Representatives election can take place is May 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
